Overview of Bovington
Bovington Camp in Dorset has been a Training Camp since 1916.The area surrounding Bovington is rural. Amenities within Bovington are limited so travelling to Dorchester (11 Miles) or Poole (13 Miles) is essential for Supermarket shopping and were you will find all major high street stores. Closer to Bovington is the village of Wool (2 miles). The Train Station there provides a vital link for travelling to Wareham (7 miles), which has a small high street with various local shops and Banks/Building Societies The seaside resorts of Bournemouth, Weymouth and Swanage are all less than 25 miles away. Many former Military houses in Bovington are now owned by civilians. A community spirit has developed between the Military and Civilian population in Bovington and is proving to be successful one with many events being jointly organised and supported by both communities.

Within the shopping arcade on King George V Road, there is a small selection of shops, you will find Snippets a Hairdressers and Beauty Salon. Motorworld for all spares and repair materials for cars and a selection of bikes for sale.
TV-Video Repair Shop is Situated at the rear of the Memorial Hall.Opening hours:
Salvation Army Café is located at the rear of the Memorial Hall, it has a pleasant dining area serving hot food, snacks, beverages etc.Opening hours:

The Londis shop caters for everyone young and old living within Bovington. There is a varied range of food, magazines alcoholic drinks and video hire also a cash point machine and post office are located at the rear of the shop, opening times of the Londis are Monday - Saturday 0700-22-00 and Sunday 0800-22.00.
Clouds Hill Pub is situated on the corner of Elles Road and George V Road. This recently built establishment is tastfully decorated with Lawrence of Arabia memerobila. There are various cash point machines located within Bovington. The main one is on King George V Road at the front of the HIVE building.
Other cashlink machines can be found in the Trax/PAYD facility within Allenby Barracks and in Cloudshill Pub. A cashpoint facility allowing you to withdraw money from your account using your debit card is available through the Post Office counter located at the rear of the Mace shop .
Cash back is available from the Mace tills. A maximum of ï¿½5 must be spent to qualify for cash back.
The post of AWS Community Worker for Bovington is currently gapped.
There are two 3 bedroom contact houses available for Military personnel, their dependants and relatives.
One house is situated in Bovington on New Road and one in the Oval - Lulworth Camp.
Both houses are are fully furnished ready to use with all mod cons including: Washing Machine, Fridge Freezer, TV, Cooker, Microwave Oven,Toaster, Kettle, Mini Hi Fi, Linen, Towels,Crockery,Cutlery, etc.Hire charges are £30 per night,

Please note this welfare facility is available only to members of the armed forces for welfare purposes and can only be booked by a serving member of the armed forces only.

The Garrison Welfare Office (Bovington) is located within the Garrison Church complex on Allenby Barracks. The Welfare Officer and Deputy Welfare Officer look after the welfare matters for all Phase 2 recruits, permanent staff and Military families. They are also the contact for deployed personnel and those who are housed at Bovington/Lulworth but their duty station is elsewhere. They provide support and advice on variery of concerns individuals may have and work closey with a number of Military and other Welfare agencies. The Welfare team also laise with the Bovington HIVE and meet with new arrivals,wives and families on a regular basis at the HIVE.

The Thrift Shop is a popular facility in Bovington. The buidling as been extended to allow more room on the premisis.Items of women's men's children's clothing,toys,babywear,books,toys, household items etc can be sold and bought. All Customers have an account, after which they can take along 6 items at a time and submit 40p to charity. Items can be priced for sale by the indivdual or by thrift shop staff. Items not sold can be returned to the owner or reduced in price or passed on to charity organisations by the Thrift shop. The Thrift shop is for everyone's use and volunteers are always appreciated.
Opening times are Wednesday 1000-1200 and Thursday 1015-1500 The Thrift Shop is open during term times only (closed during school holidays and half-terms)
The Thrift Shop is located on King George V Road by the HIVE and Londis Shop with plenty of car parking at the rear. The Thrift shop does have a direct phone line however contact 01929 403496 or call in to the shop (WEDNESDAY & THURSDAYS ONLY)
Refuse collection is on Friday Mornings. Bins are emptied on a fortnightly basis.The green recycling boxes are emptied on alternative Fridays. Bin bags placed at the side of wheelie bins will not be collected. An exception is made over the christmas period when one bag may left beside the whellie bin.
There are Bottle Banks and other recycling Containers on Swinton Avenue(Off King George V Road) FREE of Charge.A waste site on the Industrial Estate is for larger items of bulk rubbish and can be found in Wareham behind the Train Station along the Bere Road.
The site is open 6 days a week from 0900 ï¿½ 1700. Removal of white goods (i.e.: fridges etc) can be arranged through the council.
There are 2 PRI Mini-Buses available for hire
ï¿½£50 a day.Green card issued for EU travel.
Both the 8 & 9 seater buses are fitted with air-con. Drivers must be aged 25 or over.No mileage limit.Tank must be refilled with deisel on return.
